Well, today’s post is special to me since I’m going to talk about one of my favourite festivals, i.e Navratri! A punjabi living in Gujarat, I was naturally drawn towards this beautiful and vibrant festival. Being a dancer, catching the beats of garba was no hard task for me! What I love about this festival is the energy that it pumps into people! Apart from the religious significance, the nine days of Navratri are filled with delicious vrat (fast) food, irresistible dance moves, festive fashion, and unending fun. It is an opportunity to be at your stylish best in a traditional way, as you make your way to the dandiya nights . God, how much do I miss those 9 nights of dance and revelry!
The dress code for women during navratri is generally a chaniya (long and flowy skirt) and choli (a blouse) with a dupatta. However, lately this predictable attire has gone for a drastic makeover.
I love to experiment with my navratri outfits all the time, adding my own personal style making the outfits slightly edgy. Here, I’m going to breakdown one such look for all of you! Florals are ruling this season be it western wear or traditional wear. So, I decided to team up a floral wrap around skirt in two bright shades with a contrasting marsala slit maxi top. Marsala is THE color of the season and I absolutely love how well it plays with the bright orange and yellow in the skirt!
Its really important to combine the right accessories with your outfit to bring you under the spotlight. So, I decided to style my outfit with this eye catching and absolutely stunning boho neckpiece from the e-commerce site RAISSA COUTURE! They are known for their classy, elegant yet edgy apparel as well as an eclectic collection of jewelry and statement making footwear. I’ve always had an amazing association with the label and their owner Aneesha Jethwani since their fashion sensibilities are quite similar to mine. What’s great about this neckpiece is that its a fashion statement in itself making sure to turn heads around! I also added vintage silver rings to the ensemble.
As far as makeup is concerned, it’s really important to use waterproof products because you don’t want to end up looking like a ghost after all that hardcore dancing! I’ve kept my base really light as I tend to sweat a lot during this time. I don’t really experiment a lot with makeup and always go with my patent winged eyeliner using my favorite Lasting Drama gel liner from Maybelline. It is super intense, long lasting and smudge proof. I went for the lip shade Wild Muave by COLORBAR which is similar to my marsala top. If you’ve read my earlier posts which feature anything remotely close to a traditional attire, you’ll know my love towards the quintessential Bindi! Yes, I believe a bindi adds more character to your overall look!
So, there you go folks! My take on the traditional attire for Navratri !Now go on, add a lilttle spunk to your traditional navratri outfit, pick up your dandiyas and dance the night away!
