“Beauty and femininity are ageless and can’t be contrived, and glamour, although the manufacturers won’t like this, cannot be manufactured. Not real glamour; it’s based on femininity.” – Marilyn Monroe
When I think about glamour and femininty, the first name that comes into my mind is Marilyn Monroe! She was bold, yet elegant, sensuous yet graceful! She took the fashion world of the 50s by storm!
Taking some inspiration from this diva, I decided to come up with my very own retro-glam look and nothing defines glamour more than the color gold!
Here, I’ve styled a quintessential golden cocktail dress that I purchased from River Island from my visit to London last year. What I love about this dress, is that its a subtle golden, hence it does not make your eyes squint. The length of the dress is just perfect with a little sheer at the bottom. Its super feminine, enhancing all the right curves! I’ve teamed this elegant cocktail dress with dark red heels and accessorized the look with a a metallic clutch, statement pearl ring and a golden handcuff.
The look is incomplete without getting the hair and makeup right. If you’re ever in doubt about whether short hair can be sexy, just think of Marilyn. From the start, the platinum blonde opted for short locks over long — and there’s no denying the style played an important role in her overall appeal. So taking cue from her, I decided to give soft curls to my short hair. She made red lipstick look extremely glamorous and classy and so I’ve gone for Russian Red by @Mac. I’ve gone heavy on the mascara making the eyes look bright and voluminous!
So here is my take on the world of retro glam! Hope you’ve liked this look! Would love to hear your thoughts on it! Till then keep it sassy, keep it glamorous!
